Named after Detroit's famed 313 area code, AREA 313 is the three-hole stretch on Detroit Golf Clubs back 9 where fans can witness players attempting to make an eagle 3 on the par 5 14th, a hole-in-one on the Par 3 15th, and then a birdie on the Par 4 16th.
The first player that goes 3-1-3 (Eagle, Ace, Birdie) in AREA 313 over the course of the tournament wins $313,000 - 50% for a charity of their choice and 50% split amongst local tournament charities.

In 2022, THE JOHN SHIPPEN built upon the successes created in its first year and proved its place as a vehicle to fundamentally increase access, awareness & opportunity in golf on a national scale.
TJS saw its footprint expand in 2022 to feature three standalone events across three different markets. THE JOHN SHIPPEN Shootout Presented by Cognizant, held in West Caldwell, NJ, saw Lakareber Abe capture the crown and exemption into the Cognizant Founders Cup. The women and men's fields for THE JOHN SHIPPEN National Golf Invitational Presented by Rocket Mortgage were separated into two standalone events. Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI hosted the women's field, where Sadena Parks took home the win along with exemptions into the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational (Dow GLBI). Sadena teamed up with 2021 SHIPPEN winner Anita Uwadia for the Dow GLBI and the two finished T-36. Detroit Golf Club hosted the men's field with winner, Wyatt Worthington II, receiving a special exemption into the Rocket Mortgage Classic PGA TOUR event.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic launched Changing the Course with a mission to bridge the Digital Divide for all Detroit residents through equitable, data-driven investments in access to technology, internet and digital literacy.
Detroit is the least connected major city in the country, it is clear now more than ever that access to online learning, employment, health and connectivity is a critical component of a resilient, vibrant community. Changing the Course is a multi-year initiative that is committed to holistic, sustainable access to internet, technology and digital resources for every Detroiter within a ten-minute walk of their home.
Birdies for Charity is a multi-level fundraising program designed to give registered nonprofits the opportunity to generate contributions for their organization around the excitement of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Registered nonprofits in the Birdies for Charity Program will campaign for donations using the Rocket Mortgage Classic as an incentive to give.
Donors can donate based on the number of birdies made by the PGA TOUR players Thursday through Sunday of the Rocket Mortgage Classic or by making a flat donation.
100% of the pledges by the Rocket Giving Fund will go to the individual nonprofit that solicited the Birdies for Charity Pledge.
